Aparna Popat

 

Aparna, still only 20 years old, took up the sport of Badminton aged 8 and by the time she was 13 winning National level tournaments had become a habit. Aparna made steady progress through the junior and senior ranks, culminating in her being crowned National Champion earlier this year. Internationally, she is a Uber Cup veteran and 1998 saw her break into the big time. Gold medallist at the Asian Satellite in Colombo, Aparna stormed to the gold medal at the French Open Championships, confirming her pedigree as an International champion in the very highest levels of the game. Now a part of the Citibank Athlete Support Program, Aparna has a packed schedule of international competition scheduled for the rest of 1998.
