Vishy Vs Chennai 2005
A moving message from Bill
Chandler , Event Coordinator, Internet Chess Club
This event was held on 16th July 2005 at the Traders Hotel, Chennai
to help raise funds for Vidya Sagar (formerly known as the Spastic
Society of India).
This event was supported by Traders Hotel, The Internet Chess Club,
India Cements, Radio Mirchi and McDowell Signature Whisky.
At the event, Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand played a simul against
72 opponents from Chennai and 10 nominees of the Internet Chess
Club via the internet. A Chess board was also auctioned at the event
and personally autographed to the winning bidder by Anand after
a Q&A session with all participants.
Vishy Vs. Chennai, exceeded it's fund raising target by 300%. The
single largest contributor was the Internet Chess Club, who raised
an outstanding US $5800 for Vidya Sagar by auctioning its 10 playing
slots on eBay and by matching the winning bids with a contribution
of its own.
The money raised will be used towards the purchase of wheel chairs
and orthotic aids for children with cerebral palsy.
