Grandmaster Anand
Dear Grandmaster Anand,
I am very very pleased by your interest in improving the lives of autistic people and those faced with the challenge of cerebral palsy. Having cerebral palsy myself (even though it is mild), I use chess not only as a hobby, but to challenge and expand my mind, and have recently been blessed to generate income with chess as a centerpiece. I credit the game with helping to pull me out of mental depression and affording me a true circle of friends whom refuse to judge me for what they see on the outside. To have a man of your calibur and influence champion the research of these unfortunate maladies is very much a blessing, even from a half a world a way. Hopefully this inspires others to follow in your footsteps.
Here in the United States, such organizations as the Shriners’ hospitals, where I have spent a year of my life, provide free surgery and hospital care to those stricken with physical disability. However, few celebrities champion these causes, let alone someone of your stature such as what you have in India. I am amazed and humbled that you would take up this cause for your country. Up until now, I had no favorite grandmaster. It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I will now follow your endeavors both on and off the chessboard.
With great appreciation.
